Fascia and gutter line on a Perth home
Home/Services/Fascia Replacement
SVC/11 · Fascia Replacement

Your gutters are only as good as what holds them up.

Fascia is the board running along the roof edge that your gutters are fixed to. When it rots or rusts out, the gutter has nothing sound to hang from, and no amount of new guttering fixes that. It is the job people discover when they order new gutters.

Why it fails

Water gets behind it
and stays there.

Fascia fails from behind, where nobody looks. An overflowing gutter, a blocked downpipe or a leaking joint puts water against the board for years before anything shows on the outside.

What failure looks like

Sagging gutters and soft board

A gutter that has started to sag or pull away, fixings that will not hold, paint lifting along the board, or timber that gives when pressed. On metal fascia it shows as rust lines and staining.

If your gutter has come loose in one section, the fascia behind it is the first thing to check.

Why it pairs up

Done with the gutters

It makes sense to do fascia and gutter replacement together, because the gutter has to come off to get at the fascia anyway.

Doing the gutters and leaving failed fascia behind them is the shortcut that brings us back in two years.

The job, in order

How fascia
gets replaced.

This is the job as Mati runs it, in order. Straightforward once the gutter is off, and the point of it is to give the new guttering something solid to fix to.

STAGE 01

Find out how far it has gone

We check the full run rather than the obvious section, because water travels along behind the board. Often the failure is wider than the sag you can see.

STAGE 02

Gutter off, and a proper look underneath

The existing gutter comes off so the fascia is exposed. With it off we inspect the roof edges and the timberwork behind for any damage, which is the part nobody sees until this moment.

STAGE 03

Failed boards out, waste away

The damaged and deteriorated fascia boards are removed and the old material goes with us rather than sitting in a pile beside the house. What is still sound stays, because replacing a whole run of good board is an easy way to inflate a quote.

STAGE 04

New Colorbond fascia in your colour

New Colorbond fascia boards go on in your choice of colour, with the joins, corners, brackets and fixings the run needs. Fixed securely and set straight, because that straight line is what the gutter hangs off.

STAGE 05

Gutters reinstated

The existing gutters go back on where they are still good, or new Colorbond guttering goes on, set to the right fall so the roof actually drains.

Site cleaned on completion

All work related waste removed and the site left as we found it.

Straight numbers

What fascia
replacement costs.

Priced per job and almost always quoted together with the guttering, since the two overlap. What moves the number is how many metres of it have actually failed, single or double storey, and how the roof edge is built. The onsite look is free and the quote is itemised so you can see the fascia and the gutter separately.

Our written guarantee.

Our guarantee covers defects in our materials and workmanship for 15 years from the day the job is finished. Plain terms, on our warranty page.

Fair questions

Asked every week.
Answered straight.

Can I replace the gutters without touching the fascia?+

Only if the fascia is sound. New guttering fixed to failed fascia will not hold, and you will have paid for gutters twice. We check the board before quoting the gutter.

How do I know if my fascia has gone?+

Gutters sagging or pulling away, fixings that will not bite, paint lifting along the board, timber that feels soft, or rust lines on metal fascia. A loose section of gutter is the usual giveaway.

Does all of it need replacing?+

Rarely. Usually one or two runs have failed and the rest is fine, so that is what gets quoted. We would rather replace what has gone than sell you the whole perimeter.

Do you do the gutters at the same time?+

Yes, and it is generally the sensible way to do it, since the gutter has to come off either way. See gutters and downpipes for that side of it.

One honest answer.

We come out, get on the roof and tell you whether it needs replacing or whether a restoration will do. If restoring will hold, that is what we will quote, and it is the cheaper job.
