Fascia is the board running along the roof edge that your gutters are fixed to. When it rots or rusts out, the gutter has nothing sound to hang from, and no amount of new guttering fixes that. It is the job people discover when they order new gutters.
Fascia fails from behind, where nobody looks. An overflowing gutter, a blocked downpipe or a leaking joint puts water against the board for years before anything shows on the outside.
A gutter that has started to sag or pull away, fixings that will not hold, paint lifting along the board, or timber that gives when pressed. On metal fascia it shows as rust lines and staining.
If your gutter has come loose in one section, the fascia behind it is the first thing to check.

Only if the fascia is sound. New guttering fixed to failed fascia will not hold, and you will have paid for gutters twice. We check the board before quoting the gutter.
Gutters sagging or pulling away, fixings that will not bite, paint lifting along the board, timber that feels soft, or rust lines on metal fascia. A loose section of gutter is the usual giveaway.
Rarely. Usually one or two runs have failed and the rest is fine, so that is what gets quoted. We would rather replace what has gone than sell you the whole perimeter.

We come out, get on the roof and tell you whether it needs replacing or whether a restoration will do. If restoring will hold, that is what we will quote, and it is the cheaper job.
